Why subscribe?
Latin America is one of the most under followed and under invested regions in the world. It is perceived by most investors to be too risky, with investment opportunities being too few and far between to justify the time and cost of analysis.
For a fund or family office to hire a full time LATAM investment analyst (like myself) it would cost them 6-figures plus a nice bonus at the end of the year. That’s a hard expense to justify for a region they believe to be too risky.
However, the region is comprised of 20 countries with a combined population of nearly 650 million people. Obviously compelling investment opportunities exist in the region, for those willing to look for them. This newsletter will filter through the noise and present readers only the most interesting and compelling companies in the region.
Why I started this Newsletter?
It’s really hard to find good information about investments in Latin America, especially in English. I started this newsletter to educate investors about a region of the world I love. I also want to build a community of investors interested in the region because after almost 10 years of living here, I still haven’t found one.
My goal is to introduce subscribers to interesting companies focused on Latin America. These overviews will serve to educate readers about the company, industry, and region. They can also serve as a solid starting point for more a detailed investment analysis.
Why Follow Me?
Patrick Flood, CFA: I have spent my whole career living and working in Latin America. After graduating from The University of South Carolina I immediately moved to Brazil. I had no visa, no job prospects, and my Portuguese had a terrible accent. Luckily, within a few weeks I found a job at a boutique asset manager. After that I moved on to work as an M&A analyst at a family office, then went on to work as Chief Gringo (yes that’s an official job title, look it up) at one of the largest crypto currency exchanges in Latin America.
I am still involved daily in the LATAM crypto currency industry, helping Mercado Bitcoin, the largest crypto exchange in LATAM (over 4 million clients), with market research and structuring investment products.
The crypto industry is one of the more interesting and dynamic industries in the world. But my first love has always been equity analysis, so I can always find time to do research for LATAM Stocks.
Over the past 3 years I have analyzed the financial statements of over 500 publicly traded companies and wrote up a ~1000 word overview for each and every one. In the process, I greatly honed in my investment process and discovered many interesting companies. I hope to share some of what I’ve learned, and am still learning, with you.
